Best Time to Visit Valley of Flowers

The first 15 days of August is the best time to visit valley of the flowers when the maximum number of flowers bloom in the field. From lush green to yellow and peach, you will see the valley change colors because of the arrangement of vibrant flowers. By the last week of August, the flowers wilt and shed their petals, however, trekkers can still view plenty of flowers during this time.

Valley of flowers in August experiences a decent amount of rainfall. At higher altitudes, you can experience a light drizzle, thus not hindering your hiking experience. However, Chamoli District’s small town, Govindghat, which is the starting point for the trek to Valley of flowers, receives a fair amount of precipitation during August. You can still enjoy your valley of flowers trek wearing raincoats.

You will not notice much of a crowd in the first few weeks of August as not many people visit the valley during this time. It is advised to plan your visit to the valley on a weekday as the weekends are more crowded. The Valley of flowers in August is extremely beautiful to look at, thus there is a decent number of tourists that visit the valley during this time. You may find the accommodation and other amenities at a higher price during this month, so it is recommended to plan your visit in advance.

Valley of flowers in July is a sight to behold as the place comes alive because of its lush green vegetation. Although, not many flowers bloom in the valley until mid July, still, you will be amazed by the greenery present here. After mid July, the valley becomes incredibly colorful thanks to the ruby coloured flowers which blossom in full bloom. You will be able to see the Ladies Slipper Orchid Flower which blooms in the first week of the month and the Golden Lily that blooms during the second week. The lush meadows of the valley combine with the wet Himalayan soil and fills the air with an Alpine scent.

Since July marks the beginning of the monsoon season in the country, the valley of flowers in July experiences very less rain during the first half of the month. Trekking in the valley is a very enjoyable experience during this time. However, after mid-July, you can anticipate heavier showers, much like August. In July, you can also see melting snow patches and enjoy a little snow when you go on trekking at higher altitudes. Thus, it is advised to check the weather conditions before you go on a valley of flowers trek.

July is the least crowded month to go on a valley of flowers trek. In July, you will not encounter many people as the travelers and hikers usually start to pour during the end of August. Valley of flowers in September is not the ideal month to visit the place if your sole purpose is to see the flowers. The beauty of the blooming flowers fall short in comparison to the ones in August. There are very few flowers left because a majority of them start to die by this time. If you wish to view the beautiful flowers on the trail, September is not the greatest month for a valley of flowers trek. However, the valley is surrounded by the lush green which makes it worth a hike or trek with family and friends.

The monsoons are completely over by mid-September which makes it the best time to visit valley of flowers.There is much less rain in the valley of flowers in September for activities like hiking and trekking. However, when the rain stops pouring, the flowers dry up as well. Thus, if you are only here for trekking, then the valley of flowers will not disappoint.

September is not the best time to visit valley of the flowers as the valley becomes considerably more congested due to pilgrims flocking in great numbers to the gurdwara at Hemkund Sahib. On the weekends , you will see even more crowds. Even though light rain makes it an ideal time for trekking, if you wish to spend some time in solace and avoid the crowds, September is not the best time to visit valley of the flowers.
