Grahan Trek Overview

Grahan village trek is an exciting short trek and would take you through some of the best scenic surroundings of Kasol town, where it’s located. Grahan village is a very small village located over the Parvati Valley with a decent gradient of upto 7,700 metres above sea level. You would follow the stream of Parvati river during the trek which would continue from the Kasol bus stop.

The Kasol to Grahan trek is about 9 Km long and it takes around 4 to 5 hours to complete the trail. It's easy to find directions around the trail because it’s well marked with red arrows. If you wish to spend some peaceful time in the mountains then, an overnight stay at Grahan village is a must thing to do in Kasol as you won’t find crowds like Manali and other hill stations. You can even take help of the villagers or the natives to find a shorter trail to follow, all the trails would pass through the dense forests, steep valleys and narrow paths. You would complete the Kasol Grahan trek on reaching the village, there are certain accommodation options available in the village. If you wish you can plan an overnight stay in the village and retreat back to Kasol the next day.

Trek towards Grahan Village

  • Ace yourself for an unforgettable Grahan village trek and make your way to Kasol which is the starting point of the trek.

  • In order to reach Kasol you can use any transportation medium, but the most advisable one would be by bus. Catch a bus from Delhi or Chandigarh and you can easily reach the destination.

  • The trek from Kasol to Grahan Village is not a long one, it’s an easy trek requiring you to walk a distance of 9 Km. You can easily cover the distance in a duration of 4 to 5 hours.

  • The Kasol to Grahan trek route has been marked well, you won’t require a guide to help you with the directions. You can easily make it to the village following the way marked by red arrows.

  • You would see the serene Parvati river running parallely to the trek route.

  • On the Grahan trek you would cross two bridges and hike a little longer before finally reaching the village.

  • Backpack- Start the preparations for your Kasol Grahan trek by finding yourself a suitable pair of trekking shoes, a backpack with a capacity of 5-7 litres.

  • Clothes- Pack yourself synthetic clothes instead of cotton t-shirts/tops, thermal wears and a padded jacket with a hood.

  • Other Items - If you're planning to trek during the winter seasons then pack sunglasses, suncap, hand gloves, woollen cap and pairs of socks.

Essentials

  • Toiletries - Carry a light toilet kit stuffed with miniature size products like toothbrush, deodorant, moisturiser, lip balm, toilet roll, toothpaste and don’t overload shampoos or soaps.

  • Medical Box - Make sure to pack a personal medical kit consisting of aspirin, band-aid, anti-diarrhea medicine, cough & cold medicine, anti- AMS medicine like Diamox or Acetazolamide.

  • Other Items - Other essential items like a matchbox/lighter/ torch, large ziploc bags, 1 litre or large water bottles, small folding knife, binoculars and large disposable sacks.

  • Essential Documents - Don’t forget to carry essential documents like original photo identity cards like aadhar, voter id, etc.

By Air: You can book direct flights to Kullu Manali Airport also known as Bhuntar Airport in Kullu district. It’s the nearest airport and is located at a distance of 31 km away from Kasol.

By Road: There is a direct route via Delhi (571 km), Chandigarh (281 km), Rishikesh (511 km) and Kullu (31 km) to reach Kasol. You can drive upto the destination by yourself, or can catch a bus which runs regularly to Kasol from the mentioned cities.

By Train: Joginder Nagar railway station is the nearest railway station located in Kangra Valley and it is located at a distance of 144 km from Kasol. In order to reach Kasol you can take a bus or taxi from the Kangra Valley.
